Add a CommentAn amazing story! Few books have grabbed my attention like this book did. This story of a young girl's coming-of-age journey is a testimony of how love and forgiveness overcome the deepest of prejudices and hate.
I really enjoy reading this book, it gives you an outlook how a young child perceived racism in the 1960s and the love she missed out by her late mother. You will never put the book down, if you stop, it makes you wonder the foreshadowing event afterwards...

Just love this!!!
Good movie, and a good read! I enjoyed both.
The Secret Life of Bees is a wonderful read, especially for those who have studied the Civil Rights Movement. Each character is well established, and the plot is developed cleverly with a historic backdrop. The Secret Life of Bees is one of those books that you can pick up anytime without having the concern of not being able to focus your mind on it---it is a good read on your spare time. It can also be used as an ISU novel since it illustrates some important themes, such as feminine power, abuse, and racism.
Wonderfully well written book about female empowerment, and the time after the Civil Rights movement in the South. The book is from the view of a young girl with a sad past that breaks her black housekeeper out of jail and runs away with her. She sees many horrible things going on in the time, and ends up staying with three black beekeepers. A very good story about self-realization, pain, and happiness.
A great story with beautiful characters. I loved this book very much and am happy to hear that it is being taught in some high schools.
I was intrigued (read: tricked) by the face of Alicia Keys AND Queen Latifah. I kept waiting for it to get better. (*Spoiler*: It didn’t). It was about a girl looking for her mom. It is strangely unmoving. And kind of annoying. Maybe, I am made of stone.
I loved the spirituality that oozed from this book and August's wisdom soothed me!
